Cuckold is a very old term. I believe it may have even been in The Canterbury Tales.

Agreed.
It’s not the greatest comparison, but it’s an interesting point of history that this is more-or-less what happened with the swastika. Prior to the Nazis adopting it, it wasn’t remotely a hateful symbol.
TERFs started as feminists but have devolved into garden-variety pearl-clutchers.
Most are not at all coherent in their arguments, but the philosophical nugget at the core of that wing of feminist theory is that *gender* should be abolished entirely while recognizing that *sex* is real in a manner comparable to race (insomuch as women are due social reparations because gender roles have been forced…
If you follow the conversation back, I’m only addressing the comment I replied to:
That is true, and I should have mentioned that more explicitly. I was using it as an example of how public call-outs of infidelity (which would be entailed by equating it to abuse) tend to turn into misogynistic shit-shows.
Dude, Kotaku has never been a “games only, ignore everything else” site. I’m not sure how you were ever under the impression that it was.
I think what we as decent human beings have to understand is that social constructs like gender are extremely powerful, and even if we want to see gender abolished eventually, it’s cruel to foist that expectation onto every person suffering from gender dysmorphia.
So if you get down to it, and you’re not dealing with someone touting scare tactics like JKR, it all has to do with the relationship between sex and gender. This is going to be an oversimplification, but it helps to understand the philosophical roots.
To be fair, her arguments have not held that much nuance. She keeps trotting out old scare-tactic red herrings like the bathroom issue.
Interesting. I was under the impression that venues put up more up front consistently.
When a DJ has a gig, it’s the venue that pays, right?
At least most self-driven creative endeavors aren’t tied solely to a single platform, or to such an inconsistent income stream. Streaming and YouTube video production are at the mercy of advertisers and algorithms that creators barely have any relation with.
I’m certainly not laughing, but I do think it’s tragic so many people turned to streaming and began expecting it to behave like a reliable source of income. Unless you manage to have a contract with the platform, streaming is ultimately like busking on a sidewalk. You may provide amazing content, and people may fill…
Based on the reports so far, “appropriate age” is highly questionable.
That happens later in the book series.
I’m pretty sure that his spouse is the one who was lied to most in this scenario.
I seriously doubt you’d find wide support for calling that type of behavior abuse rather than just scumbaggery and infidelity.
What’s your expectation here exactly? That people ignore accusations until they’ve been completely handled by a court of law?
