@kat.bee: You do realize that KKG has one of the largest memberships of all registered sororities in the US. I'm sorry the chapter at your college was not to your liking. Please do not judge an entire national organization based on an anecdote.

Possibly the only thing more horrible than the loss of such a young life is the loss of the young life preceding the death of a parent. I cannot imagine what it must feel like to outlive your child. No one should have to go through this. May they both rest in peace.
@UrbanAchiever: HAHAHA! You win!
@cool_as_KimDeal: I don't even understand how they type. One hand is whacking off, the other is constantly programming 1-900 sex line numbers into their phone's speed dial.
@UrbanAchiever: I maintain she's ignorant. Should have at least gone with the Euro symbol in place of the E - still got an edge on the dollar!
Ignorance is a hell of drug, Kesha.
@Ishtar_in_CapeTown: Thanks for your insight - always better to hear from someone on the ground. I think here in the United States, we forget that impunity reigns supreme in places like South Africa. It's not necessarily intuitive for us to understand why a women would not speak out in the situations we are…

I am an international development professional, so I hear a lot of bad press on the PC. My friend had a terrible experience in South Africa. He made PC sound like a cult, basically. What happened was, PC knowingly placed him with an organization in which the male director consistently raped the female employees. My…
Privilege Denying Dude!? Is that you?!I THOUGHT WE LOST YOU!
@poppanegyric: comment of the year.
@pantsless: Yup. This. Beat me to the punch.
@lurkerbynature: I completely agree with the crux of this piece and the rationale she gives for wanting to date exclusively within her own culture, which is why her narrow definition of Latino stood out to me so much.
@SnideySense: That was my first thought as well.
@lurkerbynature: Oh, that's a really good point. I didn't think about that. She probably thought it was completely innocuous in the context in which she was using it (to refer to Chicanos solely, as you suggest).
@carbonyl:Right. Hispanic does not equal latino. The two terms are not totally interchangeable. Latino is far more encompassing than "hispanic".
@antxoa: There are a lot of potential cultural anthropologists on this thread.
@Evie Havok: Even if that is what she meant, an Argentinian or a Chilean could easily be tall and mestizo. So I think her schema of "Latino" might be pretty narrowly defined.
