I wouldn’t be surprised if the drop of 32bit support was a prerequisite of this architecture change, so they wouldn’t have to support both x86 architectures during the transition.

They sorta went through this already when switching from PPC to x86 so I anticipate they’ll use a lot of the same tricks with this migration.
