I'm trying to reply as much as possible to be polite, but it has lead to some good additional responses. Maybe Qui-Gon could be a vague presence until Obi-Wan develops the skill to become a force ghost. He would become more tangible as the story continued, but he wouldn't be active, for the most part.

I just don't see Qui-Gon as a great guide. He seems like a Jedi-trainer to me. And not a great one, at that. I think the "he's the first force ghost" was a little tacked on.

The actual teaching how to be a Force Ghost is the first compelling reason that I've seen for having Qui-Gon in the movie, but I think that Obi-Wan and Yoda are so much more compelling. Qui-Gon just didn't seem like a master compared to them. Maybe they could give some background that demonstrates that he actually

Is Qui-Gon so interesting that we need his Force Ghost to make the story better?

Nice catch!

Spoiler for episode 1, here:

Not for me (not vegetarian at this time), but it takes all kinds, I guess. I would eat a juicy (not necessarily bleeding) veggie burger, though.

Qui-Gon Jinn is very much present in these stories. So too is Owen Lars. Several characters from the Clone Wars T.V show would make an appearance. There would be flashbacks to Obi-Wan fighting in the Clone Wars

He just wants to make Barry a better hero!

I think that they can pull it off if they're careful and stay away from the most crazy of crazy (outrunning death, cosmic treadmill, etc.)

That position is so comic-booky. It makes me happy to see!

He can be, but he doesn't have much to offer Obi-Wan, by then. Obi-Wan has been through way more issues than Qui-Gon, with the events of the first Trilogy (even if they revolved around a lot of stupid stuff)

Force Ghosts tend to give guidance, but not leadership. Qui-Gon hasn't been shown to be much of a leader. More of a (mediocre) teacher.

Qui-Gon lacks the character development that the other force ghosts have.

I just don't think he has as much to offer as the other force ghosts. He didn't have the amount of development or screen time that Yoda and Obi-Wan had.

That's true, but Qui-Gon didn't have the amount of time alive on screen that the other Jedi Masters had. He wasn't as interesting or well developed.

I just don't think Qui-Gon had the gravitas of an older Obi-Wan or Yoda. He was a less compelling Jedi Master.

Qui-Gon just wasn't very compelling. Not a master in the vein of Obi-Wan and Yoda.

I've known a few vegetarians who were told not to eat meat by their doctors. They still want meat, but their health won't permit it.

You've just nailed the entire issue. It's exactly what I meant. Well done.
