When I went in the 80s it didn’t come completely out, but it would slide upwards about a foot or so when the right person during the event would try, to show that it was coming out. I don’t think it was ever meant to be totally removed.

I honestly like it better that Rey had a heritage that she chose to reject and go in the opposite direction of compared to just being a complete nobody. In a saga about family and legacy, the fact that she found her own family and chose her own destiny, unbound by blood, was a cool direction to go.
