I’ve been at this off and on for ten years now and I only just got it off the rotisserie after replacing the entire floor, inner rockers, etc. Also just discovered that the entire driver’s side quarter panel was replaced at some point and brazed on rather than welded. Not sure what I’m gonna do about that but I

Maybe you’re thinking of the 540? Mine’s a 528. The e39 528/525 wagon with manual trans combo isn’t super common, but definitely not unheard of. There’s another one in my neighborhood and I still see them pop up on the PDX CL from time to time. But yeah, I think an e39 540 wagon / stick in the US is conversion

I love mine. It’s even a 5-speed... I casually looked for years before finding this one, which was even in my preferred color. Most useful car I’ve owned... it’s got a dealer-installed factory tow hitch, which I use all the time for uhaul trailers to haul wood, etc, or in this case to flat-tow my 912 project. I

‘Drive All Night’ is an underrated, Jalopnik-appropriate gem from ‘The River.’ Maybe not the best way to start off a morning, though, depending on your mood.

I used to see this e9 street parked around the lower east side. It’s definitely a bit worse for the wear but is clearly getting driven so that’s good?

Another thing I’ve considered is selling the second one to fund buying an old 911 engine and converting the first. Or maybe keeping both and doing that with the second one in like 10 years! Who knows. I suppose right now I should just focus on getting the first one back on the ground.

I bought two ‘69 Porsche 912 rollers (separately) for a combined cost of $1,400 several years ago. After five years I’m about to take the first one off the rotisserie (I don’t have a lot of free time to work on it). Obviously still a ways to go on that one. My question is: I’m about to turn 40. Do I sell the 2nd

Busy day in Oregon for cars crashing into non-cars:

Yup, exactly. We were in a pen maybe 150 feet from the stage. You could get some of the crowd if you shot really wide, but again, there was nothing but a wall behind us. And you couldn’t really leave the pen until near the end. There really weren’t that many options. It did give me the time and inclination time to

It’s also just super weird. I covered one of his rallies and the “turn the cameras around” thing was particularly bizarre because if we’d done that, we’d have been shooting a wall. He doesn’t seem to understand that the cameras aren’t on stage with him, and wouldn’t have the same view he does if turned around.

I did something pretty similar in ‘08, but it was from NYC to Oregon and I was driving an ‘87 190d turbo that I’d performed a 5-speed swap on the previous winter. Worked out great! I think this photo was even taken in NJ, where I’d had a storage unit to clear out.

Count me in

What I remember most clearly is that in the aftermath everyone was wearing those cheap painter’s masks and shoveling up ash like it was snow.

That’s mine too (sounds like we’re basically the same age). My family lived in northern Idaho at the time and our town ended up covered in ash.

I think I just figured it out... Bernie is counting Hilary’s votes as 23% less valuable than his. If you do the math it shows they really are tied!

Years ago I was on my way from NYC to a Springsteen concert in Albany when the auto tranny in my ‘87 190d turbo (one year only!) made it clear it was on its last legs. Unwilling to miss the concert, I pushed it as hard as I could, knowing I had most of the parts necessary for a 5-speed swap in the trunk (I’d been

I got to see them a few weeks ago and they were fantastic. Enjoy!

maybe it’s finally time I start a sub-kinja or whatever to document my ‘69 912 restoration...
