This is why representation is important. Gender, race, religion, disabilities, sexuality, whatever, everyone deserves a chance to feel like they have a place for them.

This video just goes to show how meaningful it is for children to see people like themselves reflected in every aspect of their lives - on TV, in toys, in politics, in every profession. For anyone who thinks that it’s silly to try to make sure that all sorts of people are represented in our culture, here’s proof that…
This is my go-to example when trying to explain why representation matters. Look at her and try to tell me that it’s not important for kids to see themselves in dolls, and movies, and books, and magazines.
This is why it’s important for there to be people of color in film and directing movies and more Paralympic coverage and LGBTQ heroes in the spotlight. When children recognize that they are visible and important it can change their lives and their beliefs of what they are capable of.
THIS is the perfect example as to why Representation is Important!!!
guys i am for real concerned that he didn’t know that a whole world lay beyond the US until like 2 months ago
Oh hell, even Michael Steele former Republican National Chairman admitted the other day that he has his own personal stories about how warm and funny Hillary Clinton is behind the scenes. Everybody seems to love her who knows her; that says something fundamental about her character imo.
Honestly I come away from this convention so amazingly impressed with Hillary Clinton. I learned a lot about her that I didn’t know. I’ve always respected her tenacity and hard work, but it’s the stories about how she has spent her life helping people off camera that has me the most impressed. It made me think that…
Sure, she’s not as great an orator as President Obama or Bill Clinton. I don’t think anyone would deny that. I don’t think that made the speech flat, though. I think her style is different and making the comparison in the first place is kind of pointless.
We invited people over to watch the DNC’s last night. Most of them are already on Hillary’s side either from the beginning or when Bernie no longer had the delegates. However, some of them can’t vote so don’t care either way (being a white immigrant gives you that privilege) and some have never voted but are mildly…
So excited!! But also, if you guys decide to do another live blog on Jezebel, can you not invite the Gawker dudes? They were so horrendously repulsive that I quit the live blog after about 20 minutes. I get enough lady hate from living in the south, and living in America in general. I don’t need it in my safe place.…
It’s sort of weird for them to be comparing Sec. Clinton with Pres. Obama in this regard.
Gee, the Imaginary Hillary you have in your head is terrible. Luckily, it’s ridiculous.
I am seeing that as well and they are not sitting out here in real America. That speech reached out to every person watching. It was not the soaring oratory that we have heard from men like Bill Clinton and Barack Obama. It was the conversational style of a woman who is talking to us not at us. And talk to us she did.…
I don’t care about her oratorical skills. Her speech had meat in it, stuff that I agree with, so I’m all good!
I am so happy. And so excited. That was phenomenal.
My go-to response to any American who tells me my English is great is, "Thanks, so is yours!"
Thank you! My mom has lived in the U.S. for over 40 years and still has an accent and issues pronouncing certain words properly. She can communicate effectively enough to have worked for two high profile U.S. Senators but people still try to dismiss her and often treat her like a second class citizen even though she…
