I actually think the loyalty Trump enjoys is pretty easily explained. The far right wants to do things that a reasonable POTUS would object to. Trump isn’t reasonable, though. He’s reactionary. In the right (well, wrong) hands he’s basically political putty, just waiting for the cool kids to tell him what to think.
