Am I alone in thinking the 3rd gen F-bodies were pretty good handling cars? They were low and wide, stiff as a board, and seemed to generally do as good a job as they could with a solid rear axle. For a long time an ‘88 IROC I owned was among the best handling cars I ever drove.

If this was really about the questions on the TDI forums about weight reduction (it isn’t), then why did he read the requirements for turning the car in at all? If that’s what he wanted to do, he could strip the car, test it, reassemble it, and turn it in.

Well that sucks. I wonder if in the long run, the value of cars like yours will actually increase. Cash for Clunkers drove up the price of used cars, and I’d imagine VW taking a big chunk of diesel cars out of the market will make the remaining ones more valuable.

So in your case, they’re taking the car, paying your loan, and giving you $5k? That seems kinda low...$5k won’t replace the car. I could see that deal convincing somebody just to keep the car if it’s been a good car.
