This to eleven. Protestant is a WIDE word (and world). I’m episcopalian and I find that the church pushes me to be a more kind, giving, social justice focused person than I am without it.

You're right about a lot of it, but need a simple work approximate dress or jacket and they will provide one of good workmanship. (Granted, I work in an industry where boring is normal and preferred.)
Part of it is what you need to wear for work. If you have to dress up for employment, your costs may be higher.

Trader Joe’s has national pricing. If you live in a HCOL area it's often the best option because it is substantially cheaper. On the other hand, if you live in a cheaper area, it may look expensive and ridiculous.
