26.  Would absolutely take a defender over a wrangler.  FCA could make it 10x better than it is, but the utter lack of competition means it can be aggressively mediocre and overpriced for what it is. 

LOL well I sold my FoST and bought the Outback, but seeing as a I have dog bigger than a postage stamp (Lab/Great Dane before you @ me) there are just some things that a manual hot hatch can’t do well.  Like go anywhere that isn’t paved. 

Hey, my Outback is plenty fun to drive.  Especially after the completely necessary 2" lift and BFG K02s in the Southeastern US.

Subaru Outback.  As a fellow (actually) tall man, I can safely say it fits all of your criteria.  It can do everything the suggested cars can do in one fantastic package.
