I assumed it was doomed when the con man who’s desperate for attention announced he was buying Twitter on a whim.

My take is that Musk never had the liquidity to swing the deal in the first place. He made the offer, then realized he couldn’t afford it after Twitter took him up on it. Now that he finally came to the conclusion that they have zero motivation to give him a discount, he’s pulling out.
