Not really no.

You know that’s an actual comic book right? Not something someone made up.

This is how Japanese portray Americans in Anime. It’s not because they think all Americans are blond and blue eyed. It’s because that’s the shorthand stereotype that they have for us. They have similar stereotypes for Africans, French, Italians, and pretty much every other ‘ethnic’ group that we also have stereotypes

We have known Apocalypse origin since ‘96.

Convenient excuse, isn’t it?

Well, there’s also the fact that Apocalypse is blue, and that no one really knows what his origin story will be in the movie.

Except Apocalypse in the movie is Egyptian, he simply transfers his consciousness into other mutant bodies no matter who they are.

Considering probably 90% of the characters that appear in Ghost in the Shell are Japanese, its really not. Most characters in Japanese animation are racially ambiguous because of the influence of traditional Kabuki theatre, where broad spectrums of colour were used for the hair, eyes and skin. The majority of the

Just like the six foot tall white guy who is her partner?

And yet still no complaints about the casting of Apocalypse going to a non-Egyptian.

Poor example. That’s low hanging fruit.

Other countries don’t overwhelmingly dominate international mass media, though; nor, arguably, have the same ethnic diversity of actors (and people in general) to choose to draw from.

The difference is, other countries do it because:

They understand it, they just disagree that the pursuit of profits is a good enough reason to greenlight this adaptation.

I wish they had transferred the series to America and given her a non-Japanese name, like they did for Edge of Tomorrow. I wouldn’t have had a problem then, because Japan does that all the time - there has been anime made of various Western stories like the 3 Musketeers, Les Misérables, Hucklberry Finn, etc. Or Lupin

That’s some grade A whitewashing bullshit right there. I love Scarlett Johansson ( especially in Under The Skin, Her, The Prestige, Lost in Translation ) but this role should have always been for a Japanese actress.

I guess I just don’t put killing soldiers in a war on the same level as murdering some motherfuckers. Same thing with Captain America killing Nazi (Hydra) soldiers in World War II, it kind of goes with the territory.
Also, I imagine Wonder Woman would have fewer qualms about killing than I think Batman and Superman

Wonder Woman has never really had a big problem killing enemy soldiers, though. She fought in World War II after all. She’s pretty much like Captain American in that regard.
