I always describe Dark Souls to people as "Survival Horror Zelda."

Only the first one, really. Most Zelda games have a very strict order that must be followed, getting an item from one dungeon in order to open the path to the next dungeon and so on until you get to the end of the game and can go anywhere. There are a few instances in the original NES game where a "key" item is

Get NOS4A2, by Joe Hill. Joe Hill is the pen name for Joseph Hillstrom King, Stephen King's son. NOS4A2 is his most recent novel and it's written in the style of his father. Awesome book. Really anything by Hill is worth picking up.
