The risk/reward ratio for men is ONLY that low if they sincerely don’t care what happens to their partners.

That has been the problem all along.

This study, though, wasn’t about how women’s political or other views were influenced by the men around them. It studied and demonstrated how *men’s* views of their female classmates were gender-biased while the women’s views did not show bias. A very different proposition than what you’re describing.
