It’s for winning the regular season title, basically a nod to European leagues that don’t do playoffs. It’s actually a big deal in MLS, though I don’t think it’s quite as meaningful because the schedule is unbalanced.

I’m just happy that other than the men’s basketball teams, every other professional Washington sports franchise, major or minor, has won a league championship or at least made the final round of the playoffs since the Skins won a playoff game (I’m kinda cheating because DC United won the Supporters Shield but not won…
It’s sadder, especially because most media outlets are spelling it “Relavant” because they don’t care enough to override the autocorrect.
Kinda apples to oranges - MLB, NBA and NFL are all unquestioned top level leagues in the world. When they refer to league winners as “World Champions”, they’re not entirely wrong. La Liga is just one of many domestic leagues that may be above others in quality, but not enough that everyone recognizes it as the very…
“Relevant Sports” is such a sad name for a marketing company. It’s like calling a food supplier “Fit For Human Consumption Meat & Seafood” or a multi-level marketing company “Technically Not a Pyramid Scheme” or a daycare facility “Recently Up-to-Code Nursery”.
Washingtonians might actually attend the game if the stadium weren’t so Far From Home.
I think the small Olympic roster size is a blessing in disguise in terms of dropping the legacy and chemistry picks. I’m thinking drop Lloyd, Sonnett, Long, Harris, Krieger, McDonald and Brian, and add Short and Sullivan. Hell, if everyone’s healthy, Dunn can even play in the front 3!
Nah, Lloyd was salty about being a supersub for the entire run up to the World Cup, though she wasn’t quite as dramatic about it.
Like any other sport, and more so than basketball or baseball, there isn’t a holy grail stat that you should really be ranking players by. That said, there are really useful per-90 stats.
I’m guessing Sonnett was taken partly because she can play both center and right, and partly because she wasn’t going to play much, if at all, so team chemistry matters as much as playing ability.
I hope a coach comes in that values me, respects me, wants me as a part of the Olympic plans.
Yeah, she needs to name names. But Lloyd can’t play No.10 any more. The only spot she can play is No.9 is because she’s too slow to play midfield or either wing position.
Specifically, she’s talking about Alex Morgan. She was 36 and striker was the only position she could’ve played.
And also to be fair, a lot of baseball players are racist assholes.
Okay okay that’s a tad extreme.
Also no one wears jockstraps any more? Has anyone born after 1990 seen a jockstrap? Yet jockstraps were in the news twice this week
If you’re aged enough, you’d remember when the Steelers’ locker room was basically Joey Porter’s house
Since the last Skins’ Super Bowl win, Mystics, Caps, DC United and Washington Freedom have all won league titles.
“Mediocre” is overselling it, don’t you think? I’m fine with mediocre coffee. I’ll drink Seattle’s Best if that’s what’s brewing in the office. But Keurig coffee? Those are crimes against humanity.
But seriously, K-cups are the worst.
