Yeah, I fully agree.
Yeah, I fully agree.
Wait, come to think of it, a Solar Mars eclipse could perhaps last longer than a minute. A bit longer downtime in such event.
First, no one suggested, not the article writer, not Elon, that “Marslink” would be build using run-of-the-mill Starlink satellites. That would be hilariously misguided, and yes, that wouldn’t work.
That 4 mbps figure is NASA’s minimum data link requirement. That is most definitely NOT a current Starlink satellite capacity.
31'250'000 satellites? What bandwith number are you using?
Personally, I’m more inclined to suspect an effect from chlorine, either from the vinyl, or possibly from the adhesive.
Ah, OK, fair is fair. I was sloppy in calculation. I got from giga to peta while forgetting tera. That was careless and that is fully on me. It would take another factor of 1000.
This is not really what you can call “damage”.
Crevice corrosion is indeed a thing, but it still needs water for it to occur. Not very likely, directly under layer of sticker adhesive and plastic.
I expect that, going back to the early days of Falcon 1, and being on the verge of bankruptcy, he had quite a different motivation than he has at the moment. So, yes, I’m willing to entertain the possibility that he really did dig deep into that particular subject.
Uhm, you need to recalculate, since he was pondering petabit per second. That’s a factor of 8 off from petabyte per second.
Musk isn’t dumb, he is acting dumb. The guy knows his orbital physics, for instance, which is a lot more than you or I grasp. I’m not a fan of him either, I don’t like a lot of his choices, but his IQ isn't sub 100.
Bradley, I applaud your honesty.
Oh, but you can’t compare civilian airliner requirements directly to military aircraft requirements, you silly!
And you seriously think that a commercial aircraft is subject to the very same technical requirements as a military aircraft?
Not sure if serious.gif
Ha! Sorry AJ, but $3k per camera is not realistic. Ok, sure, the camera itself maybe, but not fully installed, powered, securely connected, in a weatherproof and somewhat vandalism-proof enclosure.
Give it some more thought.
A speed camera doesn’t stop the potential for someone to fly down a road.
Given how very inexpensive a lot of electronic products are I am really dubious about that 3.8 billion cost.
