Hilarious. I've never seen someone attempt to spin popular, frequent feature updates as a negative before. Its so annoying to have the XBO automatically update itself overnight ready for play the next day.

It's hardly badgering. My XB1 tends to update when I'm not using it without bothering me at all (am in the preview program so that MAY help). I just hear it boot up sometimes then shut down. Then next time I turn it on, it's just updated.
you're right. I bought mine to play games that were fun. It turns out that many of these indie games ended up being fun and well worth my money.
What do you mean about that second sentence? Microsoft has been consistently updating the XB1 since release (at least one a month) adding in community requested features and features they said would eventually be coming. This month's added external HDD support and next month's looks like it'll add some nice things.
i played some watch dogs a week ago and went out and watched netflix when i got mad at the game for sucking. Today i startet the game again and was at that point i was a week ago within 2 seconds... love my xb1, ps4 should have this to.
You really can't read huh?
um.. nope, only thing your losing is the visual part of the kinect everything else will still work
I really, really like Phil Spencer.
I understand reading comprehension is tough, but you can do it, buddy.
In other news..... Kotaku Readers still fail to read through the entire article leaving many with common sense and at least a third grade reading level stunned.
this sounds like a reasonable trade off to facilitate customer and developer choice. I like this
See this is the problem, yeah there were a few, but then they had to scale back the textures/lighting systems/atmosphere.
no. Developers will just program the game to notify your Xbox to disable the kinect, freeing up GPU power.
It's a worse idea because the XB1 had to allocate the power even if a game didn't use it for anything. Making it optional now means developers are allowed to push the limits further. I bet all of the previous games that were 720 upscalled on XB1 and 1080 on PS4 could have been both 1080 without Kinect reserving…
This is good news, mainly want Kinect for voice anyway.
did you not read the article? It clearly states that it does not matter if the kinect is connected or not it is the developers decision to chooseto have the game Kinect enable. If the developer enables the kinect they lose out on the extra gpu power, if they opt to not use the kinect (like bungie has with destiny)…
I'm so happy Don Mattrick is gone :).
Sure they can. They just buy a "non-gesture" game and get the beefed-up GPU performance even with their Kinect, err, konnected.
It's not a "worse choice" because it works whether you have one or not; it's all software. Did you not read?
