The Bechdel test isn't about female characters, to start out with. It's about male characters, and how they can be well-rounded, while female characters are, for the most part, cardboard across the broad landscape of pop-culture. So it's a critique of the imbalance.

Here's the thing though - it was edited out on the DVD! I'm not kidding; the stuff we saw about the asian character and the excessive lesbian groping was toned down on the DVD. We were surprised that there were lots less lesbian references when we re-watched it.
