All The Pretty Horses was one of my favorite books in highschool, so naturally the next Cormac McCarthy I read was The Road.

I mean, they aren’t the most artistic tattoos but they are cervixable.
Also...not as important as the adorable love but...what is she wearing in that photo? Are those magenta silk palazzo pants or is it a skirt? I don’t care, she just looks so good in jewel tones and has such impeccable taste. I wish I could get a subscription box of replicas of everything she wears because it’s always…
It’s not even that far of a leap to make! The woman was physically assaulted in her hotel room, while in a bathrobe, she thought she was going to be raped, she was bound and gagged.
I think it’s important that people stop joking about it and pretending that she did something to deserve it. Some folks are just heartless enough that even this won’t stop them from dragging her, but maybe more detail will help others take this horrible physical assault of a woman seriously.
Ugh, horrifying. What are the chances they can find these guys? Are these pieces of shit going to get away with it? Can they track the sale of the ring or something?
Thanks for the thoughtful response - it does reframe my feelings about it somewhat. My initial post was more expressing frustration about HBO sticking to the Wild West as the backdrop for this story, which really could be set in any number of interesting scenarios, because it feels so drab. But I get what you are…
I live in the heart of the midwest, trust me, I know cowboys. Maybe that’s why I find a show based around people wanting to role-play as them so frustrating.
Right, but I’m more talking about the choices HBO made in creating the series. The assumption is that we want to watch people role-play in The Romanticized Wild West because we, the audience, really like seeing stories set in The Romanticized Wild West. They assume we will tune in because we are interested in not only…
Oh, I’m sure they explore it in the actual universe of the show, I guess I’m more questioning HBO’s decision to create a series around this particular premise.
I wasn’t referring to the non-existent sex tape, or her having sex on camera during a reality show. That was a pathetic attempt to shame her that blew up in his face. However, there’s a whole thing where she might have driven the getaway car for her boyfriend after he shot someone and I guess she threatened to kill a…
No, the Midwest so our perception of the classic western is much more South Dakotan. It’s not nearly as romantic.
That sounds super interesting and might make me more inclined towards the show. Thanks, I’ll look it up!
But still...even if you get to be top dog, wouldn’t you rather go somewhere more, I dunno, fun? Like maybe a Roman villa on Capri at the height of the hedonistic empire or 1980's wall street (hey, indoor plumbing!), or Marie Antoinette’s Versaille. I mean, these guys can build any world they want, right?
I WANT TO GO TO THERE.
There’s a really interesting study about how kids who are exposed to PG-13 violence are actually much more likely to bully or hurt other kids. Children who had seen R-rated movies were less likely. It stems from the fact that R-rated movies show blood and suffering, whereas PG-13 only show the violence but no real…
Here’s the thing I don’t get about Westworld: who the fuck, other than straight white dudes, wants to go back to 1860's wild west? Who else had a ton of fun there? Why is HBO pretending women want to relive that time period?
They are the third party voters, the bernie-or-busters, the apathetic who think all options are terrible and their vote doesn’t matter. They aren’t like, simpering wafflers who just don’t have information; we call them ‘undecided’ because they haven’t committed to voting period.
Agree with you about his base but not that swing voters are the key; it’s the apathetic voters.
I have to say, Machado is a goddamn national hero (and now we can even claim her as a citizen)!
