No idea if it was listed elsewhere, but I just picked up Rise of the Tomb Raider for $15 at Gamestop (PC code). That’s a much, much better deal than anything else I’ve seen since its release.

I’m outright confused here, you say that they aren’t making the first twenty three post promotion levels take longer, but 20,000 XP per level is much more than most of those levels took. The breakpoint should be level 19, everything before that takes more XP.

I think the only skin I missed was the Reaper pumpkin skin, which I wasn’t really interested in. Only had to buy a few too, I’d been just about to hit level 100 when this even started, so I got a few dozen boxes during it. I am a bit annoyed it ended early anyways though, since I was still working on beating hard mode

At first I thought you just tagged an extra “perma” on for emphasis or some such, but honestly now that I understand the term I’m not very interested. While permadeath changes how I experience and choose to play a game, I still want to, you know, play.

Overwatch, still. I really need to catch up on my back log though. I might start up The Last Story finally, which I decided to wait on since I was a bit burnt out after playing Xenoblade Chronicles, which was ah, a long time ago.

As someone who is severely hearing impaired, I really hope this catches on. I think to a large degree there’s a lack of awareness of the difference between subtitles and full closed captions. The best example of this that I can think of is from Valve’s games, particularly the Left 4 Dead series, where even the sounds

I am so damned happy about this. Schadenfreude or not, after Diablo 3 this is a genuine relief.

Good article, but I’d have mentioned Borderlands (the original) in this, for its various critical animations, and certain weapon parts that result in enemies being thrown back.

Entertainingly, I just checked Marvel Heroes 2016 the other day to see if Mystique had been implemented in it. I can sympathize with your interest in Rogue’s power set, but personally I prefer shape shifting as a basis for advancing powers. I also happen to love Mystique’s backstory and character, which I feel gets

While I appreciate that Xenogears was included, I have to admit I’m disappointed that you omitted Wild Arms 2, which despite its minimal fame has what I would consider perhaps the best soundtrack of any JRPG. I’m also disappointed that you skipped the first Grandia in this.

Knowing what type of switch you want is important, I know it might seem intimidating, but before you decide anything else you need to figure that out. Personally I ordered a switch tester from Amazon (a little piece of plastic with a set of fake keys, one of each switch) and tried that. If you don’t want to bother

Ocarina of Time. Which actually makes me think a bit about how some of its design can be applied to more modern entries in the genre. Ocarina of Time’s world felt alive, and meaningful, it made you engage with it. That’s something that I think we could use more of.

Thank you. I honestly never understood the fondness for the early entries in the series, I mean even back then I liked other games better (Star Tropics anyone?). Yeah though, the first FF game I actually thought was good, and arguably which is still worth playing is FFIV.

Still on Stardew Valley, just coming around towards my second spring now. Trying to get enough sprinklers set up to not have to water manually when season turns over, that and constantly paying Robin to build things to get them out of the way.

Stardew Valley, finally started. Time management is amusingly stressful, despite knowing the game never ends.

Ouch, one of my favorite MMO developers, I’ve always admired how dedicated they were to their games. This hurts.

Cleaning up Dragon Age: Inquisition, left it late I know. If I finish that, I might pick back up Witcher 3. Not sure, could also buy some indie stuff off the Steam sale (still haven’t played Stardew Valley).

Good timing on this, I just replayed this game earlier this year, and realized it still holds up. It’s a good argument both for JRPGs in general, and for the inclusion of little extra touches in them (something that regrettably became less popular after the 90s).

Maybe it’s just me, but I have to admit I have basically zero interest in the DQVII rerelease, simply because I’ve played the original. Don’t get me wrong, it’s actually my favorite game in the series, but I haven’t heard anything about the remake that gets me interested. Quite the opposite really.

A big thing about this for me, is that when the trailer first showed I went, “Hmmm, is that Oregon?” then realized the studio was from here. I’m just absolutely loving these environments.
