I've not had it drop the connection once established. YMMV, of course, but I've been on 4.4 since the first wave of the Verizon rollout and I've had no issues with maintaining a connection.
I have a Moto X on 4.4 and I have noticed that, only every once in a while, my phone will not connect to my car when I turn on Bluetooth. I have to go into the Bluetooth settings screen and tap on the entry for my car and then it happily connects. This isn't every time, but it can be annoying.
