I know it happens every small once in a while (and yes, I do see people call it out as bullshit, especially when there's also a classist component to it). But holy shit, do people ever act like it happens way more than it does.
I definitely get where you're coming from, but speaking personally, I can't reconcile "I don't mean that all identity issues should be swept under the carpet" and "it's a question about impact." I just think there's no way to do both. If we try to be entirely utilitarian… or worse, pull a Sanders and pretend that…
Yeah, I mean, it's almost like the entire media is organized around taking tiny things that like five people do and then blasting them nonstop at their ideological opponents.
As other people have said, Clinton did that, though. (she didn't do it awesomely, and she didn't focus on the right states, but she also wasn't helped by the media)
I am totally taking you seriously, but there's two sides to this. YES it's bullshit if someone tells you that your opinion doesn't matter because you're a white man. At the same time… I would like to propose the possibility that people don't actually tell that to you as often as it feels like they do.
Sure, the left should reorganize around labor to the extent it even makes sense anymore. But there ARE sometimes you have to choose. Stuff like trans people in bathrooms is a wedge issue for a reason. Lots of the WWC is always going to see action to help them ans action to help LGBT people as fundamentally at odds,…
I guess I don't see any connection at all between having lots of gender options and not having the ability to self-evaluate. Could you explain more about that?
Y'know, I'm starting to get the strange feeling that you're not acting in particularly good faith here.
So, just to be clear, you meant that trans people should "be skeptical of the ever-expanding glut of gender identity options"… because it complicates the user interface of dating websites?
I see what you're saying, but the conclusion here really seems to be that we should stop caring about people who are marginalized because they're in groups that are small or politically weak. I can't find that acceptable. What's the solution?
I'm quite positive that not even you really believe what you're saying.
Just organize it like a tree instead of doing a dropdown; problem solved.
Friend, I'm not sure it works to be like "It can be two things, but also it's just the one thing."
Genuine question: What's wrong with options that end up not being useful or popular, or even options that attract people who otherwise would just be fine saying they're cis (if that's what you mean by poseurs)?
I walk it back: The joke is mocking people who are tolerant of non-normative genders (i.e. tindr letting people set their gender —-> Trump's win).
Dude made a joke that didn't mention haranguing, scolding liberals, and instead clearly just mocks people with non-normative genders. People defend it by saying it was REALLY about haranguing, scolding liberals and not at all about mocking people with non-normative genders.
Jesus christ,a member of the president-elect's cabinet is trolling. Trolling is officially now part of national policy making.
There was lower than expected black turnout in North Carolina, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. All would have easily flipped if it'd been higher. Florida would have flipped if more Latinos had shown up (or if more had not gone Trump because of abortion).
The "rust belt whites" narrative is about tiny group of people who…
But why wouldn't they like the policy if they didn't also think it was racist….?
