But that’s exactly my point: love interest (read: female) characters only exist for the purpose of developing the male’s plot. They’re tools, devices. They don’t have their own agency. That is a categorically a negative thing.
...is...is your username a girl, interrupted reference?? I think I love you.
yesyesyes
Buuuuut you can’t write a whole comment shaming other women and then end it with “but I don’t really care!” It’s basically the same as writing “no offense!” or “just kidding!” You obv care. Let them do whatever they want that makes them feel pretty.
If that’s all you ever are, yes it is. That means you don’t get your own story line. You’re just an accessory or decoration or worse: a prize to the male protagonist. Flat. There for sex scenes.
Uhhhhh no. That’s fucked up. Super not ok.
We thank you
Same! I’ve accosted just about all of my friends telling them they must absolutely sit down and watch it that very minute. So funny, so real, so many feels.
Hiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Just spit water onto my desk
This is gold.
Only cause we’re better than everyone kthxbye
This makes me want to get a Lob haircut again
Hahaha thank you! Perhaps my comment was just really unclear.
Yep absolutely! I know the point of the list. My comment was meant to say that for a second I let myself fall into the trap of thinking “maybe my school is different!” which of course, it’s not.
I checked that list of schools and had a momentary feeling of relief when I saw mine wasn’t on there. But then I realized that it meant that there WAS at least one reported rape at my alma mater in 2014. That’s horrifying. I guess this shows me how easy it is to suffer from the ‘this doesn’t happen in my backyard’…
I was also 20 (I guess that’s abroad age?) and only abroad for 6, but what actually makes mine so cringe-worthy is the opposite: we danced around our feelings because we weren’t technically dating yet, and both of us were deep into that psuedo intellectual phase where we flirted in the MOST cryptic, long-winded way.
Holy bejeezus what show is this from
This is exactly how my last (4 year) relationship started. I was living abroad at the time, and my ex and I sent each other long chains of verbose insufferable nonsense almost every day. I used to think it was romantic and that I had this lovely documented thing, until I recently reread the emails and almost drowned…
