This happens all the time. I visited Edgar’s Mission, a local farm sanctuary, and they said they get calls every day from people trying to find a home for unexpectedly enormous pigs. And micro-pigs aren’t even available in Australia.
He did seem to age ten years over the course of their marriage. Also, it really seems like he stuck her with most of the blame for their dog smuggling ring which could hardly engender a sense of trust in your spouse.

That’s one reason I got SUPER into Switched at Birth for a while — it’s such a dumb cheesy soap in so many ways but it was really wonderful to see deaf actors have the opportunity to represent their own language and culture. It's sad how radical that still is in the year 2016.
She is easily one of the funniest people on television.
To me the difference in your story is that you were clearly being subjected to emotional/psychological violence — I completely understand the horror you felt about your own reaction, but the relationship was obviously distressing and dysfunctional on both sides.
