The NBA has added 1 team in the last 20 years. Meanwhile the US population has gone up 40% and the number of foreign players has exploded. So a much, much bigger pool to draw talent from.

This is a bad take and you should feel bad. The league is drawing from a larger population base than it ever has. Overall talent has never been higher. I bet a full 1/3 of players in the 80's wouldn’t even sniff a roster today.

It’s true though. Kawhi is probably the best 1-on-1 defender in the league but so-so on team defense concepts, while Dick-kick McGee is the opposite of that.
