I recently saw the musical and loved it for the changes it made and the songs worked way better than I expected them to. It was just a really solid adaptation with an appropriate balance of tone, but even then I didn't think it could compare to the book's depth. Plus if they're really into it, it's just fascinating to

A question I want to pose for selfish reasons:

With a lot of friends, I've had more success with standalone graphic novels as a gateway book. It's hard to get someone into the habit of buying several collections of a larger story, but an OGN can show them the unique storytelling properties that comics can offer.

I buy my Image books in trades, but I've definitely noticed quite a gap since the last Southern Bastards came out.

Um, since you're here, have you heard about the ending yet…?

I feel like I'm always championing their books, but I absolutely love the new Valiant universe. It's been really exciting exploring a new connected universe that seems to be without restrictions. The main advantage is that they're not beholden to any movie properties yet (though that'll change soon), so their stories

Since I didn't read the last huge Superman story, I was pretty disappointed in that Rebirth issue as well. It was like the last issue of New 52 Superman instead of the first issue of the Rebirth era. Bad decision making.

Agreed with being slightly underwhelmed. I was pretty surprised when it got to the end because I didn't feel like I got a complete story. I spent most of the time just trying to understand Calendar Man's new status quo, which seemed like it needed more room to breathe.

Will this do it, @adamfrey:disqus?

I'm happily continuing with Imperium and Bloodshot, and I agree with you that Sunlight on Snow is a particularly great character. Of the new announced titles, I'm going to buy Generation Zero because it combines the psiot world with Fred Van Lente, still one of their best writers.

Imperium Vol. 2 and 3 - Joshua Dysart is probably the most underrated writer in comics. Why aren't more people talking about his work on this book + Harbinger? Anyway, the ongoing conflict has been fascinating and I think one of the reasons the series has been so compelling is Valiant's commitment to 4-issue story

This is one of the strangest things I've ever seen on a comment board. Plagiarizing comment section anecdotes from years ago? So weird.

I always pictured it as the type of line Sarah Michelle Gellar could deliver as Buffy, with the second part being delivered off-the-cuff.

When they introduced the new Storm in Apocalypse, I legitimately forgot that the character is supposed to have an accent. I just got desensitized to tuning out every time Storm talked.

The depiction of his powers was pretty cool in that movie, and he definitely looks the part more than Tatum.

He also turned down an onscreen credit for the voice performance because he thought it would be disrespectful to Doug Jones. Good guy.

The Netflix series definitely have a noticeably more authentic and gritty feel because they're actually filmed in NYC. The movies end up looking a bit too sanitized when they depict the city because you know it's Cleveland or Atlanta mixed with CGI and editing.

The Rogue Cut is really fascinating and teaches you a lot about editing. All of the deleted scenes are individually great. The Rogue rescue mission is a truly awesome Magneto/Iceman set piece. The new future characters (Blink, Warpath, etc.) actually get lines! And Beast gets a worthwhile subplot with Mystique

Whenever I think about the Magneto moments from First Class, including the Nazi Hunter scenes and the fantastic ending, I question why I don't consider it the best X-Men movie.

Random story: I was at the school when that happened and some random dude I knew from a volunteer program made an appearance in the taser video as "confused guy studying next to the camera person." It was my favorite "Hey! It's That Guy!" moment I've encountered. I brought it up the next time I saw him, but he was not
