@Montypark, in all fairness, the size of the Italian and Balkan fronts wasn't comparable to the Eastern front, or the French (NWE or whathaveyou) once the Allies did open it. They were hard fought battles, certainly, but not as big a drain on German resources (you could argue knocking Italy out was a significant

Seeing the war through their eyes? No problem.
The writers not realising what potential that viewpoint has? Many problems.

Even with that limited perspective, you can do plenty ("The Cruel Sea" being the best movie about the war in the N. Atlantic and all that). But you need a solid narrative framework for the war in

@geoffzilla, it's actually funny your last line is about war.

Because that's where DS9 falls down, in its big Dominion War story. They do give us some good episodes, and the cast turn in excellent work, but the war itself does not feel as it should. Neither as big, as dangerous, or as threatening. It's as if it's

And that "whoa" moment when G'Kar opens his ancient parchment book and -right there on the page- finds the creature.

@Afghamistam, take a gander at B5's "Severed Dreams", "Walkabout" and Rowan's recommended "Interludes and examinations". Some rather well paced and choreographed fightin' going on there- I&E's sequence is less than a minute long, but very intense.

Oh, well played, sir. Damn near flawless.

Alright. Since we're at the close of S1, it seems the appropriate place for a futile, foolhardy act. Namely…

A defense of Michael O'Hare.

No, really.
Over the course of this first season, he's had more than a brace of great episodes and plenty of great moments, an altogether satisfactory tally (and it's

@Palaeotrekkie, good to hear you're liking it! Thanks for giving the show a try. And it was quite cool to read your comments and see it through a newcomer's perspective.
Looking forward to catching you around for S2!

Somewhat appropriately, the first time B5 was airing I missed "Chrysalis" and the first few eps of S2. So catching back with the show was having the whole Garibaldi experience- "Where's Sinclair? Who's the new guy? President Clark?!" etc.

I'll disagree with Rowan, Yuri and Mireau on a particular point, though.
