Cool. For the record, I agree that neither death seemed intentional on Joe's part - hitting the dad with the snowglobe was an impulsive outburst, and he seemed to just freak out and run off without thinking about the kid.

Not that it necessarily makes a difference, but IIRC he hit the dad on the head with a large snowglobe, and the house was mentioned to be in the middle of nowhere, thus the kid's death.

I haven't been watching this show, but if Xavier's right, I might have to start. The genre shift during Season 2 would be interesting to see, anyway.
