I can definitely see how his timing was off and the Quasimodo bit was old and he tried to make up for it by doing more physical comedy (not his stronghold). However, if you read the comments, you see that people are divided on the content of his routine, which is what he probably intended and does best.
Strong point, but the origin of a word or symbol doesn’t matter as much as how it is currently used and viewed. Look at the origin of the swastika, for example.
His sitcoms aren’t funny to everyone every time. He pushes the envelope of discomfort, and it sometimes results in nervous laughter, sometimes the audience relates to the material, and sometimes they’re just uncomfortable.
