Once in high school some guys caught a stray cat near campus and kept it in someone’s backpack and messed with it throughout the day. It pissed me off so much.

Exactly. I used to be a believer in “cats need to go outside” because “the natural way of things” or some such bullshit. Then I moved to where going outside was extremely lethal for cats. Imagine my surprise when my cats suddenly started living longer and healthier lives. And then there’s the whole not killing birds…

As an animal shelter volunteer who has seen far too many illnesses/injuries caused by cats being outside, I strongly, STRONGLY, urge cat owners to keep their pets indoors.

Yep. I’m a total cat lover and have two incredibly active cats that have never stepped foot outside the house in their lives unless they were in a carrier. They don’t miss what they don’t know. If you can’t handle cats going crazy (in an adorable way) inside, don’t get a cat.

Cats should be kept indoors at all times. It increases the lifespan of cats, improves the health of cats, and keeps them from destroying native wildlife.
