YES! This was one of the most memorable cast of characters I've read. I can't believe I still remember all their names and of course link them to the superbly illustrated book covers. Those artist, in my opinion, truly helped drive the popularity of the novels. I hadn't encountered a more intriguing character…

True... but this was his foray into acting, so the execs probably didn't want to "risk" it on his acting.

I think they did that so as to not make the Rock a "bad" guy. He changed into a bad thing. Sequels were in mind to keep somewhat distanced from actually being bad.
