Strong concur. There’s a moment, right near the end of the first movie, when Kirk has been given command of the Enterprise and he walks onto the bridge - and when he says “Bones!” it’s almost a direct channeling of Shatner’s Kirk, but doesn’t feel mocking at all.

Absolutely this. I re-read the book quite recently and thought about that question a lot. I think they’ll have to either age her up or go with a cg version…which could absolutely work.

Also worth mentioning (or is it?) that the Three Elven rings were never touched by Sauron so they weren’t “sullied” by him, though they were still subject to the One Ring’s power.

I tried rewatching it recently - couldn’t make it more than 15, 20 minutes into the movie - and I’m a middle-aged fan of the original trilogy.

The whole “can’t let go of true love” story just gets me right in the feels.

No hyperbole: as someone who spent the mid-to-late ‘90's working on sci-fi games with cinematic cutscenes (Wing Commander series) I like to think I have a slightly informed opinion...I am speaking very specifically about the look of the piece - odd compositing over slightly mismatched CG backgrounds, for example.
