I think what the author doesn’t state correctly, but that IS a valid point, is the difference between a whetstone and a waterstone.
Whetstones have been used forever, but my impression is that the use of waterstones for sharpening is a relatively recent thing in the West, whereas they’ve been used in Japan for centuries…

Oh, I’m not ashamed that I like it!

I was in college when the original Conan the Barbarian came out; it was in heavy rotation on whatever video playing device was standard for many many years since - to the point that I can quote most of the movie start to finish.

Never saw the movie, but that album was kind of a primer for young me discovering the music of the time.
