I once read an interesting article about how positive stereotypes are as bad as negative stereotypes. The author, who was Asian, specifically mentioned Asians, so hard working, so loyal to their parents, able to pick up English in a matter of weeks as opposed to some people...but this positive stereotyping denies

I like the “cooking” segments where they show you how to dump three things in a blender and make smoothies.

Ugh, Hot Bench, the bane of my existence. My husband and I usually leave around the same time every morning and he insists on having Hot Mess Bench on at top volume so it can be heard in the kitchen, the bathroom, the bedroom, not a syllable of the nails-on-a-chalkboard braying can be missed. I used to love Judge Judy

Ben Vereen is still alive. They should have interviewed him to provide background and context, and it would have given them an excuse to show photos of his two wives (he was married to two women simultaneously for 36 years) and stills from “Pippin.”

Love your username. See you at Le Cirque!

Did the Times used to segregate job openings by sex? I know a lot of newspapers did...

Rhoda was a wonderful show but Phyllis was pretty terrible. They did have an openly gay main character though (Phyllis works in San Francisco City Hall, IIRC.)

Or like a lost female member of Paul Revere and the Raiders

Here’s Florence Henderson (RIP!) on her first day as the “Today” weather girl in 1959.

A long retail story but one of my favorites:

I think they were trying to provoke a challenge, if not to the concept of the Electoral College, then to the mandate that states’ electors had to abide by the popular vote in their states. Then maybe if this happened again electors would have *kind of* a free vote, but that opens up its own can of worms.

I regretted that post the minute I hit publish. I’m just so pissed off. I’m sorry. Dismiss it if you can.

I guess you weren’t in London in 1983 for the Harrods Christmas car bombing. Difference is the IRA used to phone in warnings shortly ahead of time but that time the area wasn’t evacuated, and there were some deaths.

Probably puppies who got into the closet where the buckle shoes and the good cloaks were kept and chewed the hell out of them. Obvious signs of demonic possession.

I bet she can’t. That’s vintage Hugo Boss.

It’s happened before (this is from 1930):

Apparently Presidents can incur all kinds of legal bills that the government doesn’t pay, but they can set up legal defense funds...

It’s so people, including their own husbands, can tell which is Kate and which is Mary.

And in a funny coincidence that painting behind Rose Mary Woods is now in the buffet dining room at Mar-a-Lago.

“and I’m taking the Triscuits too.” See, this is what elevates a ho-hum breakup into the realm of art.
