I once read an interesting article about how positive stereotypes are as bad as negative stereotypes. The author, who was Asian, specifically mentioned Asians, so hard working, so loyal to their parents, able to pick up English in a matter of weeks as opposed to some people...but this positive stereotyping denies…

Rhoda was a wonderful show but Phyllis was pretty terrible. They did have an openly gay main character though (Phyllis works in San Francisco City Hall, IIRC.)
