I just gradually increased in height. I'd also add that high heels don't have to mean discomfort. If a pair hurt your feet, don't buy them. You can find fab shoes that aren't torture. Look at Cole Haan, Coach and Clavin Klein— they all make affordable heels and are a great place to start. Here's a nice round up! http:/

As someone with short legs, I tend to avoid heels with straps because they cut off the line of your leg. If you're some lucky, long-legged lady, then go for it :) (or if you just like heels with straps...this is just something my grandmother always told me to avoid and it's just forever ingrained in my head).

My feet are fine now, thanks :D I was wearing 3-4" heels. I still wear them, just not every single day. My Achilles tendon shortened, which caused a lot of pain in my feet. I gently stretch my calves frequently now, even on days I don't wear heels.

my advice to anybody looking to get into the world of heels is always the same - check out dance and character shoes. They have high heels and look like regular shoes but are specifically designed to be crazy comfortable and supportive enough to dance in for hours

I wear stilettos to work daily; I regularly run through airports and train stations in 5" Prada heels. I started with kitten heels about 6 years ago and gradually went higher— now I sneer at anything under 4" high. I never have problems with my feet, probably because I change into flats and running shoes on the

That makes sense, and yeah I think they should be ok. I think the important thing is to try them on and really be honest with yourself about how they're fitting. I know that I've talked myself into buying shoes I thought were really cute that were really uncomfortable, just because I wanted them not because I could

If you're getting high heels for work, splurge on real, high quality leather. I have a pair of Franco Sarto black heels that are actually really comfortable. They've gotten me through weddings, all day client meetings and numerous nights out on the town. I've had these heels for 10 years now and they were a great

Haven't worn heels in years. Can't take the pain. Within two minutes the balls of my feet feel like the pattern of my stockings is being burned into them with acid.

I wear them a lot of days. For full-on real high heels, I've found that spending a little more is usually worth it, in terms of getting good support and something that isn't wobbly (the cheapest good heels I've found are Zara's Court shoe, but I think that for a pair of basic black heels, it's worth investing a bit

Mary Janes would work, or this or this or this or these. Personally i quite like those T-bar shoes... Also lower heels (2-3 inch) may stay on your feet sans straps, but depends on if you get good shoes or not :P

I messed my feet up wearing heels everyday, so now I just wear them when I have a meeting. Wedges are more comfortable than true heels, imo. I find kitten heels to be least comfortable, even though the heel is low.

Professional dancers don't count! They are graceful AND athletic!

It really is, but I'd dare say it's too casual sometimes (depending where you work of course, QA-testing is guilty of the most 'casual' of people) in that I mean, sometimes people need to be reminded that personal hygiene is a thing and they should probably wash their hair and metal shirts more than once a week. (and

It's a tech company. A lot of the stereotypes are true: re casual work attire. Some of the guys in the office even wear basketball shorts in the summer and no one said anything.

Any size heel is easy (or can be easy) if they have straps/ties up the front or if they're books. Straight court shoes have no desire whatsoever to stay on your feet.

Most 4 1/5 inch heels these days have a platform, so the angle is very similar to if you were wearing a smaller heel.

Also be careful with kitten heels -

If you're not used to them, and if you have any kind of foot issues at all, look for Sofft or another brand with a wider toe box — it helps to relieve the added pressure on your toes since they're not simultaneously being squeezed into a totally unnatural point.

Not everyday cause I work standing up (teacher), but I like heels when I know I'll be mostly sitting.

chunky heels for me. I can't do stilettos or kitten heels because of the wobble factor, but chunky heels make me feel planted and stable, and they're more comfy.

Sometimes I wear them to work and then take them off the minute I sit down and just walk around in mismatched socks or slippers all day. I also work in video games so wearing heels garners too much attention anyway, and I cannot walk in them for the life of me, I'm awfully clumsy even without shoes on.

Noooope, I used to when I first got out of school but I work in a more relaxed office environment now. I wear combat boots :D
