From what I can gather, they did it so that they could fake him into coming into the station and have him react to the death before revealing it wasn't true. I don't know why that works, but according to her it does.
The only thing more terrifying than this lady's story is the amount of comments people have about similar things happening to them or people they know. Lots of crazies out there, folks.
