Me being a guy who retired last year, I suppose this is true for me, but I don’t think it applies to all the men who still have jobs.

Yeah, holy shit that is a fucking terribly constructed sentence.

It’s sad, really. I remember when this site would have taken something like Hawley’s asinine comments and produced something both scathing and insightful. Those days are long gone, sadly, but I miss them.

It’s not just you.

“Even juicier, on Monday Kardashian arrived in a city in which Page Six suggests only one other man, Pete Davidson, lives for WSJ. Magazine’s 11th annual Innovator Awards at the Museum of Modern Art for which she is an honoree.”

I hope you’re right, but I suspect that most school librarians these days are parent or community volunteers, rather than people who are affiliated or even familiar with the American Library Association. I’d love for someone to tell/show me I’m wrong, though.

Great idea, idiot! I mean, it’s not like it’s very hard being a high schooler with the insecurities and fellow students being so understanding and all. Might as well put all those students checking out these books on blast. I mean, why don’t you just call them out to the 50 yard line during the halftime of each home

Nope - according to the American Library Association’s bill of patron rights, only the parents can dictate what a child can or cannot read, and patrons’ records are private unless there is a subpoena (or if the Patriot Act is involved). Librarians are gently explaining this to Mr. Thaker, I am sure.

This is the next astroturf project from the likes of the Koch brother et. al. like the Tea Party movement. It is easy as fuck to get elected to a school board with little to no money and it is easy to get the crazies to “save the children”

Every year, my highschool English teacher (NJ, late 80's) passed out a flyer with a current list of the Most-Banned Books. And then pointed out which of them we’d be reading that year. She was great. :)

The books — “All Boys Aren’t Blue,” “Lawn Boy” and “Gender Queer” — were taken out of the Northwest High School Library after a community member (not parent) read some spicy (you could say explicit) scenes from the books at an Oct. 25 meeting of the Waukee Community School District School.

I also love how they give Billy the whole revenge plot because his mom left him after his dad had the affair and then Stu’s reasoning for being a killer is “peer pressure.”

Ha! That’s great! I mean it was so perfect for people our age at that point. Horror had hit a bit of a Meh wall and then this movie was fun, violent and so darn smart!

Yeah this article is ... weird?  I mean, presumably he read the script before he showed up to start filming?  Or ... no?

we are samesies, my friend. SAMESIES

Oh, yeah.  The delivery is 100% what makes it.

I saw Scream in the theater with my buddies in 96, I was 22 and they were 21 and fucking Lillard stole the goddamn movie. The car ride home they were laughing so hard at him getting hit by the phone or crying he cut him too deep or his parents would be so pissed.

(West) Coastal* elite here. No, we get her alright, she’s a smug poseur who’s waaaaaay out of her depth (and it shows) with no affixed ideology and apparent disdain for her constituents.

hope you’re kidding

Nope. I voted for her three times. All my friends and I who worked for her are outraged at her betrayal. She is deeply unpopular in AZ.
