Amazingly, I can imagine that the kind of people attacking Platinum Game’s chosen replacement, will probably not be swayed by Platinum Games asking you to not attack said chosen replacement.
Can I say, at this point, that Kotaku can go fuck itself? Proper fuck itself?
They offered three times the union rate, and she demanded six figures plus residuals. Platinum were right to say no.
Why the fuck should they pay her twice their original offer for her to do the work and 8x what she lied and claimed they offered her to try and get her to not lie?
One of the wildest things to me is a lot of the so called “pro-union” people are all ignoring that the scale rate is what was collectively bargained for by the union. Taylor was offered significantly above scale. I am hard line pro-union, and rates (and other protections) should increase, but this is not the way to go…
My understanding of this whole thing, is that Taylor was actually offered about 15,000 for 5 days of work. so 4K per day (not sure why kotaku keeps pushing that it was only 4k, when it’s been stated a bunch elsewhere that it was more). And she demanded 6 figures for the work instead, which seems ridiculous to me, as…
It’s fine, and necessary, to have the larger labor and contract conversation about whether VAs deserve residuals, but Taylor didn’t do that. Instead, she used lies and omissions to activate both the Gamers (TM) and the pro-unionization folks simultaneously and point their rage at a studio and a fellow voice actor.
Actually, it’s come out that they offered her somewhere between $3,000 and $4,000 per four-hour session for at least five recording sessions, for a total of at least $15,000. That equates to a minimum of $750 dollars/hr, even on the lowest end, an hour for 20 hours of work. She countered back and ask for a six figure…
they do...she lied about the low pay, only stated what she would have gotten for one recording session, not the total for all the sessions. Read Schrier’s article.
This whole thing kinda makes Helena Taylor look bad. It’s been confirmed by multiple reports that her offer was $4k per session, not $4k total, which is apparently above the standard Union pay scale for such sessions. And you could make a fair argument that maybe she should’ve been paid more given the success of the…
I thought David Hayter handled this better with MGSV. He made some noise about the “humilation” of getting replaced, but he also seemed to understand why Kojima wanted a big-name celebrity to replace him. (IMHO, it was dumb, and the only Solid Snake voice is Hayter’s, but Hayter wasn’t petty like Taylor has been.)
No, she is doing what is called negotiating in public and playing off “online sympathy” to make the company suffer for a failed negotiation. Unfortunately due to the current world wide political situation so many grifters are trying to use public outrage to hustle people. This only hurts good advocates who put their…
It’s generous by industry standards. I think it would be great to spark a larger conversation about VAs being offered residuals as a standard, but that conversation shouldn’t be centered around the idea that PlatinumGames is culpable for the entire industry underpaying.
Standard SAG-AFTRA pay for a single voice for a four hour session is currently ~950USD (~250/hr). If Schreier’s information from Bloomberg is correct, she was offered up to 4x that rate for at least 5 sessions, and for the final “cameo” role she was offered 4x that rate for a single session. Per the Bloomberg…
So that 4k number is per session, not the overall number, which I haven't seen Kotaku mention. That dramatically changes the context! It sounds like 4k per session is not only fair but generous.
There’s lot of information missing from this article and a lot of comments made be people who don’t seem to have really read any information at all about this whole shits-how.
Per VA union standard pay, its $250 per hour or $1000 per 4hour session.
Places like Kotaku reporting the first VA actions without reporting her weirdass religious rants and MAGA support and dismissing the Bloomberg report about the situation created a situation where a ton of people are harassing Jennifer Hale. Its shameful that you would add the bloomberg report as a stealth update to…
I don’t have much of a stake in this as I’ve never been much of a Bayonetta fan either way, but from what I’ve been seeing online the original voice actor’s side of the story doesn’t seem entirely on the up-and-up.
