Also, football and basketball mostly rely on athletes that are at the “freak” end of the continuum, soccer is a sport of mostly “normal” sized athletes, only baseball (and hockey in parts of the country) are competing for those athletes.

Amen. If soccer talent were randomly distributed, the US’ population alone (4x that of Germany) should predict more global stars even in spite of the competing appeals of other more lucrative American sports leagues (as though Pulisic could somehow become an NBA or NFL star/starter).
That’s too simplistic and defeatist. If soccer had a development program akin to football, basketball, and baseball and still lagged, then the scarce athlete argument would have more weight.
Because Americans like to win in athletics, regardless of the specific sport in question. And so we’re trying the same approach that we use in football, baseball and a slew of other sports, but that’s not how the rest of the world does it. And the rest of the world is better at it than we are, but we can’t accept that…
And then someone threw that baby from the car on the way home.
Jurgen Klinsmann was an arrogant jerk with a penchant for demoralizing his players and pissing off powerful…
More likely it’s just part of their identity. “Al Davis” and “Oakland Raiders” were synonymous for a long time, and it’s kind-of the family business. As opposed to, say, the Jaguars, where Khan’s family is probably less emotionally invested in the team than I am in this post.
What’s kind of funny is that Mark Davis looks just like Nick Swardson in that micro-dick porn star movie, but he’s appearing to be a more competent owner than his dad was (at least towards the end of his life). The whole thing with honoring Tommie Smith and John Carlos at the Mexico City game really surprised me with…
All NFL teams with eventually be located in either megacities or corrupr red states where you can watch the footbaw but infant mortality is at like 40%.
Not really - the last Al years were dire but Mark has cleaned things up. Not even leaving the Bay Area, who would you rather have? Jed York or Mark Davis?
At least Davis kinda realizes he’s a dumb pawn and takes a back seat on important football decisions. On the other hand you have Jed York actively trying to run his team into the ground while alienating any and all fans that he can.
Even without using my google machine I was virtually certain it was Al who messed it up.
Mark Davis goes out confidently, and completely aware that he is the adult Dennis the Menace. The man drives the van that he loves, eats the chinese food that he craves, and does it all with styyyyle.
So many of my fellow Raider fans clamor for Mark to sell the team to someone who became wealthy by other means, someone who can afford to keep them in Oakland. To that, my response is: Do you want Dan Snyder? Cause that is how you get Dan Snyder.

Mark Davis would just be another anonymous doofus with a little bit of money and a terrible hairdo without the Raiders. With them, people at least know who he is: a well-known doofus with a little bit of money and a terrible hairdo.
Why? Class divisions are everywhere, even in how you obtained your money. The 1920s was rife with literature about it.
Al Davis, the swaggering maverick owner, played dirty pool to grab control of the team.
It was a vote on the Raiders. Somebody needed to dissent because that’s what Al Davis would have done.
I wouldn’t, the Raiders MAY be good the next two years and if I were a Raiders fan I would like to experience it. They are leaving either way.
