“you’re doing the same thing you accuse others of doing, i.e. speaking for a giant group of people whose views you really don’t know”

This is a non-fucking story. Stop trying to make it happen.

Most white people have no opinion about this song. Of the white people who do have an opinion, most are listening to, requesting, and/or purchasing the song. Don’t believe Gawker that there is some sort of organized race riot... the story here is invented for clicks.

Whoa first I never wrote he was a broke kid washing floors or that he was a good person. I don’t understand why people think any comment on T Swift is an attack on this nice sweet girl.

Money gives you an advantage over people. She can hire a better manager, take song writing lessons, travel to places that will put her in front of the right people and time not wasted laboring on a day job so she can work on her music.

“Don’t invest in stupid shit like clothing lines if you have zero taste and artistic skill, and the clothes you design look like shit even the Salvation Army would throw out”.

Is that what he’s shooting for? Because it all just looks like Spanx for people of color and the kind of workout clothes you see in Walmart. It all looks cheap and tacky.

She basically makes nightclub appearances and pretends to twiddle a few knobs (insert pun here). She’s not a credible DJ by any means.

He’s actively participating in that sexist culture. He’s as much a part of the problem as those shitty clubs.

No.

“Please don’t have your reps contact me, because I like to be able to lowball you directly. I find it’s easier to be manipulative and scummy that way.”

but whats an EPK

Well, if he likes Paris Hilton’s DJ skills, then he must be an expert in the field.

Who are all the white people having Hot Takes on this song? Are they college students? Literally no one I know, black or white, fucks with Macklemore. This song isn’t even a thing to me. I get that he’s popular, I’m not trying to present myself as niche and holier-than-thou, I just get the overall impression that he’s

Listening to music is an inherently political act, probably the most effective way of changing the world.

‘Fear’ really isn’t the word.

I’m pretty liberal, and entirely white, and I hardly ever even think about Macklemore, let alone fear him. Is this is a thing I should be aware of and paying attention to? Or is it safe for me to go back to not thinking about him?

I was embarrassed when this straight white guy was lauded for being “brave” enough to say gays should be allowed to love each other, long after the hardest part of the fight was done. I was embarrassed because “Downtown” was so fucking bad. I haven’t even heard this one. Fuck him.

Ain’t nobody talking about Macklemore’s new shitty song but y’all.

I’m unconvinced that Kara Brown knows what “hypocritical” means.

I had to “learn” two Macklemore “songs” (measures - really needed to learn a total of about 4 measures of music) for a New Year’s Eve gig. Until that point I was only vaguely aware of his existence. I now know this is the music that I hate more than any other music.
