Threatening to burn down the DMV would have been ok had you actually done it.

Maybe the Norwegians have their comedians advertising EV’s too, but the important issue is that there incentive program is WAY more robust than ours.

Now playing

As was said above, they operate best in a range. But even then, being in a cold outlier environment drains charge faster than a hot outlier. Norway’s EV popularity is a myriad of factors, but most of them fall under social circumstances and policies.

Yeah, I was talking more about the heavier structure going under the whole safety umbrella. I like to think there is a middle ground between shit from the 60's and 70's that would disintegrate on contact, and the insane pillar thickness we have now. ASM and airbags probably save thousands of lives a year on their own,

Altima drivers are fun in Chicago because they all are either entirely inattentive or are going 20 over the limit whipping across every lane like lunatics.

think the problem with QC at Tesla is no such job exists

I’m increasingly becoming convinced we need to strip all this tech junk out of the cars and go back to the lightweight simple cars of the 1980s.”

Strange isn’t the right word because there is so much nuance to it. People drive trucks for a lot of different reasons. The issue is that how goddam huge they have gotten makes them a real pain in the ass to be one the road, so if people are going to drive them, they’d better have a good reason.

By all means. That sentence is how I enforce a zero-tolerance policy for shitting on something that brings someone else joy. If it isn’t dangerous or outwardly obtuse to the rest of society, then be happy for them. Anyone who isn’t can get bent.

I found that most of those scams have moved to FB marketplace. I got a lot messages from friends with crap like “why is someone selling this MINT Grandon Wagoneer for 7 grand!?!?!”

I guess this is NP for aa ZR1, but for $17,500 I would rather have a more anonymous C4 that I could do whatever I wanted to.

It’s also so easy to just throw another piece of material packaging in the trunk/backseat when you are nowhere near a trashcan/dumpster.

I agree with you for the sake of misinformation, but not on the subject of rich assholes like Musk being morons. Twitter just gives people the rope to hang themselves with in that regard, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

Right, that’s what mine and OP’s point is. I’m in the same boat of high-miling for my job, but had to make the fun car last for a few years as the daily before parking it for most of the year. Which I greatly enjoyed and am at peace with the hard miles I put on it.

Hell yes. It’s brutal for me because between working construction and tailgating for every Bears game in Chicago, my car always has an absurd smattering of crap inside of it. There’s so much good energy tied up in driving a tidy car.

You can limit miles on your car if you want to own it forever, but doing it for the sake of resale value is trying to have the cake and eat it too. Either buy the car as a toy, or buy it as an investment. Trying to do both will feel shitty either way.

Agreed, while the answer to the person’s question is indeed “get over it”, there’s nothing wrong with not wanting to put 15k+ a year on a car that is special to you that you want to keep. That being said, now obviously isn’t the time to just go out and get that 2nd car. Hold out for as long as you can.

Not my own purchase but when I was a kid, my dad bought a 4 year old early E60 5 series for my mom and oh sweet jesus, he swears it was the worst money he ever spent. First off, it was a 545i, which is the most performance you can get without getting an M5, which means you get all the discomfort of low profile tires

literally any middle-class suburb in the late 90's (mine was outside Chicago)

and to a lesser extent: don’t have the space for it. God only knows what sort of junk would be sitting on my lawn/driveway if I didn’t live in a two-flat in Chicago.
