Ehh, it’s because tire barriers are actually about as effective as SAFER barriers. The main pro to SAFER is that they take up a lot less space, so they make more sense on conventional ovals. Circuits with big runoffs have a much easer sell on dedicating a bunch of area to tires.

Indeed. It’s frustrating though that every time it gets pointed out that a company losing money hand over fist, there’s a whole backlash that basically goes “wHAt AbOUt aMaZon???!!!?!11?!??//!//1???” which is entirely incorrect.

This is gold, but also repeats one of the biggest lies that for some strange reason nob0dy has ever bothered to verify: Amazon has never lost money the way we tell ourselves startups are supposed to. Since going public in ‘03, they have only had five quarters in the red, never more than two quarters in a row. They only

Do you get the Phaeton because you’re divorced, or do you get divorced because you bought a Phaeton? It seems like you can’t have one without the other regardless.

I think more likely is you need to buy at least a couple at once to get your hands on one. You probably wouldn’t even talk to a salesman about it, but instead talk to the guy who handles fleet sales at the dealer.

I think the problem in this particular case is the dealer is going to mark up you’re special Maverick unless you are buying like 5 of them. They only want to sell the Hybrids to fleets.

Indeed. That’s the difference between A guy whose been racing for 20 years and one whose been racing for 14.

FFS, if it wasn’t profitable when nobody was getting paid a living wage, then how on earth was it going to be profitable now that they are losing that legal battle?

The fact that multiple cars were parking it on the in-lap should be reason enough that the red flag and restart was an undue circumstance for the whole field. Nevermind what a stupid reason this is for a DQ. Letter of law is important but come tf on. And this only makes it look even stupider that Bottas’ got a measly

LOL. I can’t find it, but there’s a great bit from the onion where a “Scabby the Rat” is converted for non-union usage, and holds a sign that says “You can be replaced.”

This is why I hate it when people belittle hydrogen as a replacement for gas, and give Toyota credit for sticking with it. We built an entire society around a conventional quick refilling infrastructure. Maintaining it can 1000% be worth the losses of the burn efficiency of the fuel and the cost of repurposing gas

1st: Every time I hear someone in the industry championing “mobility” I want to scream. They are running a grift, even if they don’t realize it.

Hallelujah. The EV “revolution” won’t be here until Honda does an EV CR-V that has the same price bump normally associated with going from a 4cyl or a 6cyl, 6 to 8, etc. People just want their cars to be appliances.

Even the 6th gen was good for what it was as just a big sedan. And as a result, now I find myself constantly fighting this losing battle trying to get my non-car people friends (all of them) to understand the brand is not what it used to be.

Indeed. Although I will say that I don’t think anyone would have batted an eye if the penalty was 15 or 20s. But then again, people wouldn’t be as upset had he won the race.

1000%. MSRP doesn’t tell the full story.

I paraphrased my actual response because it was way too long for a Jalopnik comment, but I effectively told him this is what happens when you just buy the cheapest thing on the lot. I had made your exact point about a car being a major purchase before this had even happened, and that you should do a lot of due

Not really any cheaper than other brands,

Agreed, I’d still label it at least ~65% Hamilton’s responsibility, if for no other reason than the letter of the law is rightfully more protective of the lead car. But the real reason why this is such a flashpoint is because Verstappen took a brutal impact for it, and Hamilton won the race.

Neutral: This doesn’t apply specifically to the Maxima, but I think Nissan in general built up quite a bit of brand loyalty with GenX and millennials that hasn’t caught up to what garbage they’ve turned into in the 2010's and onwards. A lot of kids from my high school (2009-2013) drove hand-me-down Altimas, Maximas,
