This thing is such genius. Making economical EV’s that people want to buy while battery prices are still this high is obscenely difficult. If you’re really trying to kickstart EV’s in your company (the Bolt and Volt are OK but also you get the sense the accountants hate their guts), do some bonkers shit like making

I agree with your basic sentiment, however, I am extremely opposed to giving any AV systems that much lee-way. It’s going to be a long ass time before any normal person doesn’t jump out of their skin when a car driving itself seems to be on a collision course, even for a brief amount of time.

Just because they have the specs for it laying around doesn’t mean they can start pumping them out because, no matter how you cut it, you’re taking resources away from producing the transmissions in the other 98% of your lineup. And that’s also assuming a transmission from at best, 10 years ago, is going to

I figured, but it still is something to figure out this is where its at.

Kinda weirded out how such an odd comparison actually makes a ton of sense. I say that as someone who dailies a 2016 Mustang, and has also ridden a diverse array of bikes.

Holy moses. I remember these being a thing in sim city 3000. I can’t remember which year that you theoretically gain access to them, but shit, 2020 could redeem itself pretty hard with this.

Most of the comment section is missing the joke as well. But that’s to be expected with such a politically charged and obscenely complex topic.

I understand that, but the same issue still remains. Getting ZF to make a manual packaged to fit something like the C8 is going to be expensive because it’s probably not going to be used anywhere else, so its likely not worth it to the manufacturer on a low-run vehicle. It made sense when every high end sports car had

I wouldn’t exactly label it shocking. If they put a manual in these, it’s probably the only cars those transmissions are going to be used in. Even if the take rate is like 40% for the manual, its really hard to justify developing multiple transmissions for one model that isn’t a high-volume seller.

Seconded. My favorite is how obviously full of shit the WHO was when Covid really started to pop off, yet both sides still cherry pick any information they let out for the sake of the #narrative.

Neutral: Tahoe-Sister teaches at an elementary school and they just had 2 positive tests this week (a teacher and student) so she is freaking out if they are gonna have an outbreak. She was convinced we were going to move back into stringent lockdowns at some point this fall since July, and now I’m starting to believe

+100 to the mid-2000's CR-V. Is it basic and as non-descript as you can be? Of course it is. That’s the point. My roommate got pretty much that exact same one in the article for like 5 grand to drive to and from construction sites and it’s the balls.

Same here, Brochacho.

Problem is that most cars are high quality now. Very few people would pick a new A-Class over an off-lease C-Class.

1st/Neutral: I don’t think people realize how much this has to do with how well made cars have been for the last 10+ years now. I know there’s a lot of shit thrown around here for people screaming “JUST BUY USED” at every corner, but seriously, 16 years ago, buying a 5ish year old Euro luxury car meant you very well

Fair enough. My thinking is if we can do it for propane, we can do it for hydrogen. And of course there’s the issue of the load on the power grid from EV chargers. I’m still of the mindset that EV’s will be far more prominent, but good on Toyota for keeping the ball rolling on hydrogen too.

Username checks the f*ck out!

The other big advantage to this approach is converting highway gas stations/rest stops for pumping hydrogen is fairly feasible, probably more so than making them into charging stations.

Been thinking about this for awhile. Most practical scenario at this point is EV’s replace gas powered consumer cars, and Hydrogen replaces diesel in tractor trailers, box trucks, maybe HD pickups too? Basically everything above a certain GVWR. I don’t think there’s a practical amount battery to put in something even
