That brings up why I enjoyed Harlots, you could tell the team that made it was very female. It may be a drama about a time when women’s options were very limited but it focused on how the lead characters found the strength to survive in a world stacked against them. Too often, that kind of drama seems to leer at the

Yep. They defend hires like Williamson as just a provocateur but where’s The Atlantic’s provocateur who “just puts it out there” with radical views on undoing the weath gap, racism or patriarchy?

Aren’t we getting a Splash remake with Channing Tatum as the merman and Jillian Bell as the human he falls for? That’s pretty close.

That was her! TBH, it was how they got me to watch since I didn’t have much hope in Lifetime adapting Flowers in the Attic.

I vote for something involving Mondo and Michael Costello being pals. They’re still my all-time faves.

If you take her “if I told you his name...” comment, as saying he has a fairly unique first name, Orlando seems like a good guess.

Sigh. I forgot about that.

Yes. Definitely. There’s a lot more skill to these jobs we don’t appreciate, especially when it comes to dealing with customers. It’s a shame we don’t appreciate customer service jobs, because someone good at it can be a real boon for their company, but most of the time the upper management for food service just

And then there’s my favorite counter argument, ‘but this trained job makes a living wage, why do you think mere burger flippers should make the same amount as the person in the trained job?’ Well, I think someone in a trained job should probably make more than just a living wage.

Yeah, I didn’t see the big deal. Then I watched his movies and while I don’t find him stunning to look at, I like him as an actor and dancer, he also seems pretty decent as a person.

I remember being disappointed by The Mindy Project. The idea of the pilot was a comedy about a woman who couldn’t function in regular society because she wanted her life to be like a romcom, but the series couldn’t keep it up.

Also I remember UC schools being a BITCH to get into for anyone outside the state of California.

I don’t understand why she did it but I understand Sara Gilbert was a big part of getting this show together, including convincing hesitant cast members. Interestingly, when I tried to confirm this a lot of that has been memory holed, I could only find that on gay blogs reporting on what the trades were saying early

I think a lot of them are “accepting” of LGB people but also get mad when we “push too far” by, for example, criticizing heterocentric narratives. It’s like lauding MLK Jr and his legacy but getting mad at the suggestion that his battle isn’t done or that there are more black historical figures we should study.

I think Roseanne Barr is a Megyn Kelly type. She cares about the rights of gay and lesbian people because she has a lesbian sister and a gay brother but has no bullshit meter for stupid shit said about trans people. She remembers what it was like to live paycheck-to-paycheck so she cares about depicting that struggle

It hasn’t aged well, it’s one of those shows that started ahead of the times and ended behind it. For me, part of the fun was that it was a teen drama about gifted kids who were in such a hurry to grow up. When they drank, they were sipping martinis in upscale hotel bars like they were more concerned about becoming

Ugh, I’m sorry to hear that. It really sucks when the pleasant demeanor is just a cover for apathy. Sometimes I find it helpful to talk them through their excuses until they fall apart, sometimes I start taking notes on our interactions and eventually try to go through the list — sometimes it becomes less work to fix

I’ve been lucky in those jobs because the company put clear lines in how far I could help a customer and when it was time to give them a supervisor... and, most importantly, none of the policies struck me as unfair to the customer. So when people came to me angry, their mood turned very quickly (because I apologized

I read the Daily Show oral history book recently and Stewart knew he could do well just by being the loudest liberal voice in the media but he insisted on stepping back and considering what they were saying, who they were arguing for etc...

I’ve worked in customer service jobs out west. The niceness is only insincere if you’re rude. If you’ve got a problem we could help fix, we were happy to do that. If you were rude and complaining, it was a sadistic pleasure to stay calm and smile and see how much that would get them spun up further.
