I’m pretty sure most of these people who say that you can’t make jokes because people get offended were also the people constantly complaining about the “anti-Trump” jokes on late night TV. I used to spend time on the television subreddit and there was an effort to get the mods to ban YouTube clips from late night

Ugh. I’ve been following the Topher DiMaggio thing since his first victim spoke up. It’s been infuriating to watch the discussion and see how far some gay men will go to defend a rapist because he’s a good looking guy they want to keep having boners to.

I think a big factor is that — in the US, at least — the reality shows that get the most publicity are the most tawdry ones. Shows like the PBS/C4 House shows or the professional competence of Face Off don’t get the attention that shows like The Bad Girls Club or a Joe Millionaire does.

The UK CBB at least has some interesting picks outside of the reality TV “personalities” the first season had feminist icon Germaine Greer (who has been appallingly transphobic of late), a couple years ago they had RuPaul’s Drag Race judge Michelle Visage and conservative pundit Katie Hopkins.

That was my reaction (tho I recall second-place fininsher Kwame was the one who seemed nice) but overall I distrusted all of them because the episode I saw had them moving into a Trump suite and they were all breathless about how beautiful the place was with everything covered in gold, so either they were liars or had

I only saw one episode of that first Apprentice season but the next morning I tried talking about it with a co-worker who was a fan and was surprised to learn Omarosa was the most hated part of that cast. I thought she was okay in that one episode, the white woman she was paired with seemed like she was looking for a

Kinja’s edit isn’t working for me anymore so I’m replying to myself to add that I’m pretty sure a good number of voters are thinking “Well, Moonlight won last year, so I don’t want to vote for a black movie or a gay movie this year.”

I think it deserves all the Oscars but I can’t imagine the Oscar voters who loved Crash voting for it. I don’t see them voting for Call Me By Your Name, either.

Yeah, Savage is one of the stories I can forgive providing that no one comes out and says that behavior has continued over the years. He actually was still a boy at the time — unlike the men who have recently tried to claim that things they did at 40 were youthful mistakes — and while his behavior was allowed to get

I had a lot of reservations about Clinton but in the end it all came down to “but Trump is....” I think she has a history of listening to the wrong people too long and and discounting the voices warning her that those people are full of shit (the same way the NY Times does) but in the end it all came down to knowing

Yeah, I think asking for that particular weekend really shows a lack of marketing savvy.

Someone please influence her to add a comma to her motto. I’m guessing it’s supposed to be “You do you, boo” but I keep reading it as “You do, You boo”

For now, the old school marketers have an advantage because there are companies that collect and sell the data marketing firms can use to say that their program was effective. (Which still doesn’t protect you from your client saying they have internal data that contradicts you but it’s still something.)

The email by Elle Darby is horrendously unprofessional.

I think that’s the case with Franco (presuming he’s straight as he says and not gay or bisexual as the gossip keeps claiming), with things like Interior: Leather Bar and the Batman slash art exhibit, my impression is he’s in love with the idea of having a “renegade sexuality” while maintaining the privilege of

I remember hearing a story on this topic on NPR around the time that Borders closed. It was a major issue for retail managers because so many shopping centers were built around a Borders, the same was the case for so many of these big box stores. Larger shopping centers already had to deal with JC Penny’s closing

Having belonged to a church that flirted with that kind of Revelation philosophy (I belonged to a lot of different churches as a kid, going to one friend’s church for a year-or-so then taking up another’s school friend’s invitation to go to theirs), that brings up a few flashbacks.

You’re right, a big part of it is preservation of gender norms. Gay people are a big threat to that because eventually they figure out they can create their own paths, instead of trying to fit their relationships to old gender norms... and then become role models to straights. (I long believed that gay marriage was a

I think the idea is that we’re supposed to be having as many babies as possible to keep a flow of souls going to God or something like that. So being gay is bad because you’re not having babies and abortion is bad because you’re not having babies (also for birth control).

Sandler doesn’t have the huge box office draw he did but apparently he’s pretty popular when you get rid of the barriers to seeing a movie (like ticket prices and leaving the house). IIRC, at the time Netflix ordered its first Sandler film they said his old movies were some of their most-watched.
