A good article, but JUST LIKE IAN'S, it failed to define the term before discussing its merits, and also like Ian's, can easily be taken as self-promotion for a product or service.

I've yet to see evidence that it strips the intrinsic motivations at all. As I've used it, it's more that the motivations remain the same, but rather than a vague feeling that I am or am not doing well, I have feedback to show that, no, I haven't been keeping up with a task, so I'd better do it more. If it were really

I think it's more about the incentive provided by the feedback - like for driving, realtime average fuel economy displays - so you have a bit of a minigame in "how can I get my miles per gallon up?"

That's promising, though it's often the publisher who slaps DRM on. Ah well - just have to wait until there's a product on the shelf to see how it goes!

Now playing

I haven't really gotten into any of the live stations, recommenders, etc because I've wandered far too far from mainstream music to find things from the spheres I listen to. I found it hasn't been too hard to find new music though - I just hear it incidentally in other cultural contexts and then look it up.

I thought that was exactly what my explanation did... No use for an image of deities, and no use for attachment to them. If there are no deities, there's no offense taken at their use; there's no attachment, and no need for a rebuttal. :)

With a PSP-1000, the only real upgrade benefits are UMD caching to reduce load times, and Skype - if you'd ever use it on a PSP. One's about as good as the next - except the Go - I'd rather have any of the other models.

Actually, I have a 3DS and don't mind charging every day, but this thing is ridiculous. Every game I play I play until the battery dies because it only lasts 2-3 hours. It'll even die in a day in sleep mode. What I want to see Nintendo do is put out an official, certified power pack that lasts at least 3x as long as

To be fair, that would be as bad an idea as MotionPlus though - it just splits the (already small) platform, and most games would not use it because most people don't have it.

Is it too geeky to hope he fights Fudou Myou-oh? It seems like a natural match to me, and would look awesome.

I think one of the greatest strengths of video games is the allowance to try things you'd never try in real life. Want to take out a team of elite commandos by only throwing knives? While hopping everywhere instead of walking? Knock yourself out - it'll probably fail, but who cares?

You could tell her that her displeasure stems from her attachment to the idea of what Buddhist deities should be. :p Really though, that's about what Asuras are supposed to be - petty-minded wicked gods.

Can you still program PCs without a restrictive license agreement and fee? Yes? PC gaming isn't going anywhere. It may or may not enjoy the biggest games (still seems to get a great deal if you ask me,) but as long as it's programmable, it's full of games.

No doubt the real benefit to a PC is doing everything else as well. Still, $500 will get you both HD consoles right now, and will that PC keep playing new PC games for 10 years without changing or upgrading anything?

I have an iPhone 3GS and enjoy a lot of games on it. If I'm going somewhere I can sit down and surf the internet for a while, I'll grab my netbook too. It's also nicer for watching videos and playing some games.

Dat nekomimi...

It would be foolish to bet against Nintendo or forget they exist. I'd be foolish to buy another of their systems after being disappointed and feeling like a sucker so many times. Both ideas can coexist just fine - I'm not into their games, but if I were making investments, I wouldn't avoid them either.

I said it was a trope - not that that was always its explicit meaning. It's just that (especially in Japan) it's part of a futuristic motif now - it was also used in ancient armor and cloth printing and you still see it in some things that aren't sci-fi because like you said, it's a shape.

lol... I know the rant you're talking about, but "boku" means "I".
