In the mid 90s I started noticing a design trope of hexagons = futuristic. It may have gone on longer than that, but I bet that's what he was referring to. It's kind of unoriginal to use hexagonal themes to make things look futuristic.

Compare a city now to a city 100 years ago - much more going on per block, and more taller buildings. Less green space. Lots of lights at night. This just extrapolates on that.

I don't mean to patronize, but I can definitely understand carrying a formal writing style into personal discourse, so I hope this is useful to you since you said people tend to get into their "fighting stances" when you don't mean to provoke them:

I don't mean to imply things about your habits, but I keep my games because... I'm a game enthusiast. If I want to play something like the original GameBoy Tetris, or Lock & Chase, I go to a games shelf, take it off, and play it - and I do sometimes. People collect far less useful keepsakes like trading cards,

I suppose if they want to lock people out, that's the most effective way. On discs, your options are more limited to software locks (DVD video) or weird proprietary format tricks (PSX, GC.)

Well, I am sorry if I misread your intentions. I have usually seen PC vs console arguments end up as bickering over technicalities, and I thought that some of your points such as the ability to emulate games from past generations or the cost of modding a console was somewhat particular and tangential to the issues the

Well, this is... fascinating. The post I made this morning has vanished completely without a trace. Maybe it'll stay this time...

By games, you said a PC would have more games like he was seeking; I disagreed, and you listed emulator options, so yes, I mean games in the same way we've already been discussing. I think you're looking a bit too hard for something to trip me up on here. Were you implying that he could play games on emulators, or did

My mistake. I guess I figured a Nintendo fan looking for adventure wasn't looking for Space Quest or Monkey Island style games (though a couple are on DS thanks to Cing.)

So in other words PCs are better for classic gaming because you can rip off console games? Brilliant. I was talking about actual PC games, but if you want to get into legal grey areas, you can also buy a 360, mod it, and load it with emulators for the cost of a half-decent video card all-inclusive. Also, adventure

It wasn't always that bad. In the 90s it was seen often, but not usually, and still laughed at. Even anime fans would point out how ridiculous it looked. What annoys me is how after 2000, you started seeing panty shots with ridiculously tight cameltoe all over the place. It doesn't even make sense usually, but I

Nope! I can't handle it! I could buy it and put it into my 3DS, but it would be all like "what's this? You should put in a game cartridge! I don't know how to use this..." and I'd say "Thanks, Nintendo! This regional lockout thing really takes me back to the 1990s!"

I strongly disagree. Even though I play mostly indie games on PC, I've been gaming on PCs for 26 years and have way more, and more fun classic style games on my 360 than ones that currently work on a modern PC.

If you like side scrollers, platformers, and classic games, I think you'd be better served with a 360. XBLA has tons of somewhat retro-styled games. PSN has some excellent ones, but they are much fewer, and you rarely get demos for them.

That's a great thoughtful writeup of it. I've always been a bit curious about Assault, being Namco, not Nintendo.

It's more that unless I'm playing an MMORPG, auto-updaters don't offer any value to me. Almost everything I have on Steam is single-player, so really, either a game is broken beyond usability, or the patches for it are optional and don't need installing right away. It's also not that hard to go to a website and grab a

Hahaha... I wasn't even thinking of it that way! Maybe accidental puns are the best?

Starfox was one of my favourite games of all time. Since beating it, all I wanted was another game like it - starting, ending, and made entirely of on-rails flying and shooting with some leeway to maneuver; with flying challenges like the armada, Sectors X and Y, and bizarre oddities like the black hole. But it seems

Well, ignoring the beast it was years ago when it launched (heh, it used to eat so much RAM Windows forgot how to use multiple fonts!) it's just a huge pain in the butt to use for me. It's huge and bloated now - I don't want a single feature included in it, from the friend list to the updater, and least of all the

*sigh* I guess Starfox 1 really was one of a kind. I give up.
