They did the alpha numeric naming because BMW and MB does it. sorta like in the ‘80s/’90s when marketing folks thought having someone rapping on a commercial was the way to appeal to younger people.

Thunderbolts were based on the smaller Fairlane sedan not the Galaxie. But there was lightweight Galaxie sedans for racing but they were canceled and the Tbolt was born. 

“The old Galaxy nameplate” HUH? There was NEVER a Ford Galaxy. There was a Galaxie which was never officially sold in Europe anyways

Yep its all in the shape and area under the curve in power production. I bet the supra being turbo has a very nice flat torque and HP curve vs the NA 370 motor which I assume is very peaky in power production.

Nope the ‘99 to ‘01 Cobras had IRS as well. Ford was also developing it for the 07 GT500 as well but it would have drove up the cost by a few K.

Are newCamrys really that much bigger than a MKIII Supra? 

I dove a 87 Mercury Tracer (323 based not Escort based model) for about a year during 2016-2017. It was wild, like that world in Super Mario 3 where everything is HUGE.
