See, here’s the thing. You have to like “chalky” in order to enjoy Necco wafers and C. Howard’s Violet Mints. Maybe you have to have a positive childhood association with them, too. I do, so they’re my favorite kind of candy.

I was 17 for the entirety of my first year (1980-81) at a Seven Sisters college. It’s not that unusual. Like several of my classmates, I had skipped a grade in grammar school.
